Who can edit books?
Only approved book authors edit book pages.

Organization of books
Books should be broken into chapters and pages. Each chapter should have an opening page with a short summary of what the chapter is about. The chapter content will then generally be placed on pages within the chapter. However, if the chapter is very short, the author may choose to not have pages, but to simply put all the content for the chapter on the chapter “opening” page.

For each chapter, the author must choose two headings:
o       Chapter title for the chapter opening page: This title will appear on the opening page for each chapter. This title should be not more than about 10 words long and should describe the content of the chapter. Chapter titles should indicate their chapter number by prefixing the title with “ChX”, e.g. “Ch1 – The history of …”. Authors must prefix the opening page title in this way to ensure that the chapters appear in the correct order i.e. the chapters are organized in alpha-numeric order according to their chapter opening page titles.
o       Menu title for the chapter: This title will appear in the menu outlining the contents of the book i.e. this is like a chapter heading that would go in a table of contents. However, because it is a menu item, it must be VERY short (one or two words), and descriptive. Again, authors must prefix the title with “ChX”. This will ensure that the chapters appear in the correct order in the menu i.e. the menu items are put in alpha-numeric order.

Similarly, for each page within each chapter, the author must choose two headings:
o       Page title for the page of the chapter: This title should be not more than about 10 words long and should describe the content of the page. Page titles should indicate their page number by prefixing the title with “pX”, e.g. “p1 – The history of …”. Authors must prefix the page title in this way to ensure that the pages appear in the correct order i.e. the pages are organized in alpha-numeric order according to their page titles.
o       Menu title for the page: This title will appear in the menu outlining the contents of the chapter i.e. this is like a heading that would go in a table of contents. However, because it is a menu item, it must be VERY short (one or two words), and descriptive. Again, authors must prefix the title with “pX”. This will ensure that the pages appear in the correct order in the menu i.e. the menu items are put in alpha-numeric order.

After approving a user as an author of a book, Legaltree will create the book and create blank website pages for the chapters and pages of the book. The user will be designated as the author of that book and their privileges will be upgraded to make them the sole editor of those pages.

The author should plan the layout of the book very carefully; this will save difficult reorganization later. Having decided on the titles for the chapters and pages in the book, the author should send a list of these titles to Legaltree so that the book can be created. The author can then start copying and pasting their content into their book. Remember, all content must be initially created in Word, and then pasted onto the website. The authors Word version on their personal computer is the master copy.

To clarify the title information that should be sent to Legaltree, consider the following example for a book titled “Frustration of contract”. Assume the book has the following subjects discussed in chapters 1 and 2:

1.                  The history of frustration of contract
o       Frustration of contract between 1700 and 1800
o       Frustration of contract between 1800 and 1900
o       Frustration of contract between 1900 and 2007

2.                  The legal test applied to determine whether a contract is frustrated
o       Element 1 of the test for frustration
o       Element 2 of the test for frustration
o       Element 2 of the test for frustration

The author would send Legaltree the following list of titles (the author would send a table with just two columns, the first column in the table below is for clarity in this example):

As mentioned above, if the chapter is very short, the author may choose to not have pages, but to simply put all the content on the chapter opening page.
